Baby MonitorWhat You Need To Know

Having a baby monitor seems like the perfect solution to make sure your baby is safe when you can’t be in the same room. Unfortunately, wireless baby monitors emit radiofrequency (RF) electromagnetic fields, just like cell phones. Babies are more likely to be harmed by radiation exposure because their skulls and other biological systems are still developing. Exposure to RF from cell phone use may increase cancer risk and interfere with brain development and reproductive health. While more research is needed to understand the range of possible health consequences, you can choose to practice precaution now!

What To Avoid
Wireless close to baby:Using a wireless baby monitor that needs to be right next to your child. Proximity, duration, and level of exposures all matter when it comes to how much radiation exposure your child gets.
Safer Choices
Skip the monitor:Simply have your baby nap close to where you are or even strapped to you so you don’t need a monitor. This has the added benefit of more bonding time.
Distance the monitor:If you need a baby monitor, turn it on only when absolutely needed and plug it in as far away from your child as possible.
Ethernet:Use a wired baby monitor that goes through the ethernet or internal wiring in your home. Though the Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are created by electricity moving through wires and can also be harmful, your child will be further away from that source.
Low emissions monitor:Consider a “low emission” wireless baby monitor or one that has an “eco mode” which only emits RF radiation when your baby moves.
