Food StorageWhat You Need To Know

Proper food storage is essential to keep your food tasty and fresh without any unwanted chemicals Here are some tips to help maintain a healthy and safe diet for your loved ones!

What To Avoid
Plastic:Be cautious about using containers or wraps made with plastics as these can contain BPA or Phthalates. These chemicals can leach into food, especially when heated. Containers that are “BPA-Free” may still contain substitutes that are toxic.
Microwaving plastic:Never microwave plastic containers as these can contain chemicals such as bisphenol-A (BPA) or Phthalates, which can leach into your food when microwaved.
Safer Choices
Glass, ceramic, bamboo and stainless steel:Your best choice is to use food containers made of safer materials, including glass, ceramic, bamboo (make sure to check before using in microwave or freezer), or stainless steel (not recommended for microwave). A ceramic bowl with a plate on top is another easy way to avoid using plastic for food storage.
Wax, paper or silicone:Switch out plastic zip-top bags with wax, paper, or 100% Silicone reusable bags.
Plastic option:If you’re using plastic containers, look for the recycling codes on the bottom. Containers labeled with #1, #2, #4, and #5 are generally safer options than #3 (PVC), #6 (PS or polystyrene) or #7 (other).
